3 Reasons to Prioritize Working on Your Nervous System

Here are three reasons why you should make it a priority to work on your nervous system right now.

Working with your nervous system means:

  • Being able to consistently understand how emotions are triggered in your body via the autonomic nervous system
  • Being able to determine the state that you're in
  • Understanding how you can bring yourself back into a state of safety, connection, and calmness.

That's what working with your nervous system means. For the majority of us, our lived experiences and traumas also come up when we try to work with our nervous system. This often requires additional work.

But as a generic idea, this is what it means to work with your nervous system:

It means being able to understand where your emotions originate from, how they emerge in the body, what happens at each level of the nervous system, and how to determine what state you're in.

Then, you learn how to bring yourself back into a state of connection and safety. Once you are good at these practices, you’ll be able to work with (instead of against) your nervous system anytime, anywhere.

Before I dive in, I want to let you know that we are currently offering a free detailed Nervous System Profile.

This is perfect for you if you are experiencing…

Adrenal fatigue is REAL. And healing IS entirely possible, without having to give up your life, your dreams, your drive.

So here are three reasons why I think it's so important right now:

1

Optimal Immunity and Body Restoration

Working with your nervous system and being able to access a system state of calmness, safety, and connection allows you to access the full capacity of your body's healing powers, of your immunity system, and of your restoring power.

It's so important in a moment like this when we’re going through an epidemic. But it’s not just about that. It’s about all of the stress we have going on around us. It’s important to be able to constantly access our body’s healing powers.

If you’re constantly in a fight or flight mode, your entire body is in a state of survival. When this is the case, your immune system and your capacity to heal are severely impaired.

2

The Ability to Regulate Others

When you work with your nervous system, you are able to regulate yourself while also correcting others. This is an extremely important skill for people who are leaders in any way, such as leaders of a group or community and parents.

Even just as part of a group, you want to be able to influence other people's states, be able to connect with them safely, and bring them back into a state of safety and calmness. This is an extremely important skill in a situation like we are in right now.

3

This is What the World Needs Right Now

Look around you. People are panicking in a way that makes them think that emptying shelves of toilet paper are going to save them. This makes sense because if you're constantly in fight or flight mode, your higher brain functions are literally shut off.

This means that you’re not able to make the right decisions. Your decision process is severely impaired. Your ability to think and to coordinate with others is completely hijacked.

What we need right now is a collective action. We need to be able to work together without pitching at each other and without fighting with each other. We need to be able to bring the level at which our society is triggered down.

It’s so important that more people are able to do this work. The more people who are able to bring the panic of others down, the easier it will be to get out of this crisis.

What you are and what you do is incredibly important, not just for you, but for other people.

To close, I’d like to share a quote that I was reminded of today by my breathwork teacher, Kathy Carey. It’s a quote by Alan Watts, and I think it’s incredibly relevant right now.

“You didn't come into this world, you came out of it, like a wave from the ocean. You are not a stranger here.”

Your nervous system is part of this. It's completely attuned to the rest of the environment and to our Earth.

So the moment you work on your nervous system, you're actually working to make the earth and your connection to the environment and all other beings, much more fruitful; Much more attuned.
